Posts: 143 23 April, 2008 02:41	Tags : democrats, obama Pennsylvania votes today in the primary which could decide who wins the Democratic nomination for the US presidency. Hillary Clinton needs a double-digit win to justify staying in the race for the Democratic nomination but her lead in opinion polls has gradually eroded from 20 per cent to 5 per cent. Who will Pennsylvanian Democrats favour when they go to the polls? Barack Obama, still fighting to leave behind the furore over his remarks about small-town Americans, says he is not predicting he'll win but told a local radio station: "I'm predicting it's going to be close and that we are going to do a lot better than people expect." Who do you think would make a better Democratic presidential candidate, a better president and a better "leader of the free world"? What chance do either Mr Obama or Mrs Clinton stand against Republican candidate John McCain in the presidential election? Is America ready for either a black man or a woman in the White House? Posts: 71 23 April, 2008 13:11	Who do you think would make a better Democratic presidential candidate, as much as i am not fond of her and it almost hurts typing this, Clinton a better president and a better "leader of the free world"? none of the above. i am not a "lesser of the evils" kind of voter What chance do either Mr Obama or Mrs Clinton stand against Republican candidate John McCain in the presidential election? i think Clinton has a better chance against McCain simply because she can play the game of politics much better than Obama. like it or not, politics is most definitely a game and no one plays it better than republicans. at first i thought Obamas lack of experience would be beneficial for him and it is concerning his "fans". to compete, its really not. he doesnt show the "strength" needed to compete and win. i could very well be wrong and his fans could pull through and he could win everything but i would be VERY surprised Is America ready for either a black man or a woman in the White House? i would venture a guess saying absolutely. i dont think the gender or race of the person matters much with the majority of voters... except with the mass who want to vote "black" or for a woman no matter what they stand for. that i cant stand What impact would Mr Obama or Mrs Clinton as president have on British relations with America? And on America's relations with the rest of the world? i think Clinton would have a better impact internationally than Obama. she has a lot more experience and shes realistic and rational considering international relations. she knows we need to bridge gaps and i think she can certainly achieve this. Obama probably could as well but i dont think it would be as effective or as quick as it would be with Clinton now... i've had to praise a woman i cant stand this entire post. thank you very much

Posts: 641 23 April, 2008 23:48 A voice crying out in the wilderness	If Obama is the Democrat candidate, I think there'll be a lot of voters who may either abstain or vote Republican on race alone, either if they would claim to be non-racist. It'll be a kind of fear of the unknown. I would say the same could be true of Clinton, re. her being a woman, but I think the fact that a woman leader has already been observed in UK politics (Margaret Thatcher) it would be less of a concern. Saying all that, though, I think with Obama as candidate there could be many black voters who would normally not bother voting at all who will go to the polls simply because they will have a realistic choice of having a black president.

They only make up about 12% of the population. I think that Clinton would be a stronger candadate. Obama has too many things going against him. Lack of experience, past associations people who would harm his reputation, and a misguided fear of his association with the Muslim religion (his father is Muslim). All these things are going to be blown out of proportion in the GOP political ads. It's so petty, but even his name works against him. I've actually heard some ignorant people say that they do not want a president with the name Obama. These little seeds of doubt that can ruin his chances--true or not--fair or not.
